Khushwant Singh



Khushwant Singh,an Indian novelist and journalist born on 2nd February 1915 in a Sikh family in Hadali District Khushab, Punjab (which is now part of Pakistan) died at the age of 99 on 20th March,2014.
He was a member of Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1986.  Khushwant Singh is the original creator of Santa Singh and Banta Singh for carrying them in his best-selling books and gaining them popularity through his columns.

Khushwant Singh wrote many books and short stories and received many honors and awards in his lifetime. His honors and awards include

Rockfeller Grant,1966
Padma Bhushan, Government of India (1974)
Honest Man of the Year, Sulabh International (2000)
Punjab Rattan Award, The Government of Punjab (2006)
Padma Vibhushan, Government of India (2007)
Sahitya academy fellowship award by Sahitya academy of India (2010)
‘All-India Minorities Forum Annual Fellowship Award’ by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav (2012)

His death was condoled by many including President,Vice President and Prime Minister of India.
The body was cremated at Lodhi crematorium with political stalwarts like LK Advani, Farooq Abdullah, Salman Khurshid among others, present.  He will always be remembered in the heart of every individual for his awesome works.
